Home tower near Colditz

The Heimatturm , originally Heimats-Turm , is a 20 m high brick observation tower on the Töpelsberg south of the city of Colditz in the Saxon district of Leipzig . It was built in 1901 on the occasion of the 1st Colditzer Heimatfest in the extremely short construction period of ten weeks. At the time of its inauguration on July 20, 1901, the home tower was 18.7 m high. The upper part of the tower was severely damaged by a lightning strike on June 3, 1903. Since the reconstruction it is now 20 m high.

From the viewing platform of the listed tower there is a good panoramic view of Colditz, the Mulde valley and the surrounding villages.
