Freiherr vom Stein School around 1900

The Heinrich Böll Comprehensive School is a comprehensive school in the Grumme district . It emerged from the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule , a grammar school .

history

The origins go back to the Höhere Töchterschule founded in 1865 . It was located on Humboldtstrasse from 1870 and moved to a new building on Arndtstrasse in 1900 . The architect was the city architect Friedrich Neumann . It was later renamed Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule after the reformer Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom Stein (1757–1831) .

The high school was destroyed in World War II. The school building at today's location in Agnesstraße was built between 1952 and 1955. The architect was Hans Knirsch from the municipal planning office. The namesake of today's comprehensive school is the writer Heinrich Böll (1917–1985).

The Freiherr vom Stein School was known, among other things, for the high proportion of children from working-class families among its students. In addition, she regularly accepted up to three trains of new students in the gymnasiale Oberstufe who, as so-called “lateral entrants” from other types of schools, were aiming for their Abitur at this school. A diverse range of extracurricular work groups and leisure courses was another defining feature.

In 1990, for the 125th anniversary of the school, the grammar school was closed to make way for the comprehensive school that already existed at the time.

comprehensive school

From the 1980s, the school was converted into a comprehensive school for each year.

The school is now an all-day school with lessons from 8 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. It has a branch of music: two of the six classes of each year receive extended music lessons during lower secondary level . In order to improve the learning performance of the students, one also works according to the concept of cooperative learning .

building

The school consists of a total of 4 buildings. The Agnesstraße building, the Gretchenstraße building, the upper level building Wielandstraße and the new Agnesstraße extension with the unofficial name "Spanisches Haus", which was completed slightly in summer 2017. Some of the buildings in Agnesstrasse and Gretchenstrasse have smartboards, while the Wielandstrasse building and the Agnesstrasse extension are fully equipped with smartboard technology.
