The Heinrich Heine School (HHS for short) is a primary school in the Bessungen district of Darmstadt . The school was named after the poet, writer and journalist Heinrich Heine (1797-1856).
history
The Heinrich Heine School was separated from the Wilhelm Leuschner School in 1965 and has been an independent primary school ever since. After the old building, which was only intended as a temporary measure, was found to be no longer fit for renovation after 40 years in 2004, the school relocated in summer 2005 as an interim solution to teaching containers on the site of the former vehicle registration office on Donnersbergring. The old school building was demolished and a new two-story school building was built in its place, based on the competition design by the architects AG 5 from Darmstadt, which won the first prize. The new school building was occupied at the end of 2007.
building
The new Heinrich Heine School building consists of two side wings with a foyer in between. In the south is the separately arranged gym with a covered bridge to the classrooms. Thanks to the two-storey construction, a clear functional separation into classrooms and functional rooms could be made.
On the upper floor, all eight classrooms are arranged in both wings, with group rooms in between. Each class level shares a group room, which is used especially for differentiated teaching. Administration, flexible multi-purpose room, work room, computer room and support rooms are distributed over the two wings on the ground floor.
The triangular shape of the school and the school buildings, which are arranged parallel to the adjacent paths, have created a semi-open, protected inner courtyard and, at the same time, reduce noise from the surrounding residential area.
Networked building: The use of integrated systems for building services and the use of a client-server computer architecture contribute to energy efficiency. A photovoltaic system has been installed on the school's flat roof since 2009 .
The central playground, play areas with climbing frames, green areas around the buildings and a school garden are available as differentiated open spaces.
