Heinrich Georg Bechert (born June 10, 1926 in Köditz ; † December 8, 2005 ) was a German civil engineer.

Bechert was the son of a small building contractor. Even at school he had a preference for mathematics. He enrolled in mathematics at the TH Karlsruhe in 1948 , but soon tried to switch to civil engineering, which was possible through the mechanics and applied mathematics course. In 1952 he received his diploma with a thesis with a mathematical background from Theodor Pöschl (stability of framework structures). Then at the chair for structural engineering, where he received his doctorate in 1954 with a dissertation on the structural analysis of free-standing spiral staircases ( for structural analysis of spatially curved girders ), and was Bernhard Fritz's assistant at the chair for structural engineering until 1956 . At that time Fritz began to turn to prestressed concrete from composite structures and Bechert was involved, among other things, with his research field of the decrease in the clamping force due to friction losses in prestressed concrete and the theory of prestressed steel structures. From 1958 to 1962 he worked in the Silberkuhl engineering office in the Stuttgart branch. In 1960 he opened an engineering office with his colleague Drexler, whom he still knew from Karlsruhe, soon afterwards he dissolved the partnership and ran the engineering office himself in Stuttgart and Bruchsal. In 1966 he was approved as a structural engineering test engineer. In bridge building he worked a lot with the Lupp company in Nidda .

At the Schlitz flood bridge, he optimized the cross-sections of the T-beams ( balanced cross-section ) and he also began to set up his own laboratory for model statics. A total of six times from 1969 to 1991 he published the continuously adapted article Solid bridges for the concrete calendar . He worked with concrete factories for precast elements for supporting structures, especially bridges.

From 1970 he was on the committee for the new version of DIN 4277 (Part 1) and worked in other DIN committees (such as 1055, 1075, 1072, 1045). In 1977 he received a teaching position for solid bridges at the University of Karlsruhe.

He was chairman for Baden-Württemberg of the Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI) and later also President of the VBI.
