Theodor Michael Friedrich Pöschl (born September 6, 1882 in Graz , † October 1, 1955 in Rimini ) was an Austrian applied mathematician and engineer. He was professor for mechanics and applied mathematics at the TH Karlsruhe .

Life

Pöschl studied mechanical engineering in Graz and Göttingen from 1899 to 1903. From 1904 to 1906 he was an assistant at the Montanistische Hochschule Leoben and received his doctorate in Graz in 1907. He then worked there as an assistant and, after completing his habilitation in 1910, was a private lecturer. From 1911 he was associate professor and from 1916 full professor of technical mechanics at the German Technical University in Prague , where he did military service in the First World War from 1914 to 1918 . From 1925 to 1926 he was rector of the university. From 1928 he was a full professor of mechanics and applied mathematics at the Technical University of Karlsruhe, but was dismissed in 1937 because he was married to a Jew. He then worked at Leitz in Wetzlar until 1945 . In 1945 he was again a professor in Karlsruhe, where he was rector in 1946/47. In 1952 he retired.

He was a corresponding member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

Karl Klotter is one of his students .
