Heinrich Walter Bertram (born May 1, 1826 in Magdeburg ; † November 5, 1904 in Berlin ) was a city school councilor and was particularly committed to reforming the school system in Berlin.

Life

Bertram studied theology, mathematics and natural sciences in Halle and Berlin and then worked as a teacher in Berlin at the Königstädtische Realschule and the Werderschen Gymnasium . In 1868 he became the rector of the newly founded Sophien Realschule .

He was an avid supporter of object lessons and advocated gymnastics and drawing lessons as well as science and geometry lessons. He was committed to founding the seven-grade community school.

When he resigned from his service in 1900 because of his health, he was granted honorary citizenship of Berlin .

Heinrich Bertram died in Berlin in 1904 at the age of 78 and was buried in the Old Twelve Apostles Cemetery in Schöneberg (Dept. 309-17-2). The final resting place of Heinrich Bertram is dedicated as a Berlin grave of honor . Since Bertram was an honorary citizen of Berlin, the dedication - in contrast to the majority of Berlin's honorary graves - is not limited in time.
