Life

Heinrich Scholl grew up as the son of a mine worker and a saleswoman in Ludwigsfelde. After an apprenticeship as a toolmaker and studying at the Riesa engineering school, he first made a career as an engineer at the Ludwigsfelde automobile works. After speaking to a Swedish supplier delegation about the poor economic situation in the GDR, he lost his position and initially had problems finding adequate employment with a cadre file that identified him as a saboteur of negotiations with non-socialist countries . Finally, he came to work as a technical manager at the Berolina circus combine and, after a promotion, to the general management of the GDR state circus in Berlin. In 1989 he moved back to Ludwigsfelde, where he worked as a technician for sports facilities until the beginning of his political career.

In December 1989 Heinrich Scholl was involved in the founding of an SPD local association in Ludwigsfelde and acted as its first spokesman. In the following year he became mayor of Ludwigsfelde after the local elections in May 1990. As mayor, he was involved in the economic reconstruction of the town and was re-elected twice in a row. In January 2008, he resigned from the mayor's office for reasons of age.

Heinrich Scholl was married for the first time from 1964 until the death of his wife in 2011. He has an illegitimate birth son and an adopted son.

Criminal trial

Heinrich Scholl became known nationwide in the course of police investigations into which he murdered his wife . This disappeared on December 29, 2011 and was found strangled two days later in a forest near Ludwigsfelde. After a circumstantial trial, which was accompanied by great media interest, Scholl was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder at the Potsdam Regional Court in May 2013 . The Federal Court of Justice rejected its appeal in February 2014 as unfounded.

After the conviction, Heinrich Scholl resigned from the SPD.
