The Heinrichsburg Neustadt is an Outbound Spur castle in the corridor of Neustadt / Harz in the district of Nordhausen in Thuringia .

location

The castle ruins are located on a narrow mountain spur that extends from west to east, about two kilometers northeast of Neustadt. The location of the castle between the Hohnstein in the west and the Ebersburg castle in the east is striking . The area of the inner castle was a long oval structure and was adapted to nature. In the north there was a steep slope, in the south and west it was secured by ramparts and ditches as well as somewhat flatter slopes.

history

Little is known in writing. In 1344 it was called "Hus zu dem Heinrichsberge". The owner was Count von Hohnstein . The castle served to cover the ancestral castle because it was vulnerable from here. Remains of a shield wall-like fortification and minor wall remains in the south are still evidence of the bastion. Along with the Iburg, Hohnstein and Ebersburg, it was one of the four southern Harz castles that were of strategic importance. Their job was to protect the ways and homes of the knights. It was also intended to protect the Heeresstrasse - Königsstieg . There is hardly anything left of the castle. Paths, walls and ditches are still there.
