Heinsius & Sander (later called Heinsius + Sander ) was a traditional textile shop in Kassel .

history

In October 1874 Arthur Heinsius and Emil Sander founded the business as a "specialty shop for linen and beds - Heinsius & Sander". In 1883 the business, which was now called "Linen and Linen House Heinsius & Sander", was appointed purveyor to the royal Prussian court. On April 1, 1897, Arthur Heinsius acquired the property at Oberen Königsstrasse 17 and a workshop was attached. From June 1911 Wilhelm Heinsius became co-owner of the company. From 1916 onwards, private customers were only allowed to buy using a voucher, as the range mainly consisted of undergarments for those involved in the war and mattresses and linen for the hospitals due to the First World War . In 1919 Emil Sander left the company for reasons of age and died in 1923. The house at Oberen Königsstrasse 17, which is now opposite the town hall , which was inaugurated in 1909 , was expanded in 1928.

On October 22, 1943, the business building was completely destroyed in an air raid on Kassel. Due to this event, the owner Arthur Heinsius died on October 25th, and Wilhelm Heinsius inherited the business. Between November 1943 and September 1949 the business premises were temporarily housed in the building at Obere Königsstraße 5.

According to the plans of the engineer Rothe, the destroyed office building was rebuilt in 1949 at the original location at Oberen Königsstrasse 17, and in 1955 the rear part of the ground floor was built and the passage was redesigned according to the plans of Werner Hasper.

In 1961 Wilhelm Heinsius' son-in-law, Gerhard Evers, joined the company. At the end of March 1962, Wilhelm Heinsius left the management for reasons of age. In January 1967 Herrmann Wenner took over the management.

On February 1, 1970, the construction of a five-storey front building began, which was already occupied on December 1. From February 1972, the four-story rear extension was built, which was inaugurated on September 2nd.

In 1975 the “dowry laundry” department became an independent specialist shop on Obere Königsstrasse. Another major renovation followed in 1976; this created a passage with the departments for men's and women's underwear. On March 1, 1979, Britta Melchior, b. Evers and Torsten Evers joined the company as limited partners, and on July 1st, Torsten Evers became managing director and sole authorized signatory.

At the end of May 2014, the company was dissolved due to the changed business conditions due to the online business and the resulting decline in business figures. A drugstore chain has been located in the building since then.
