Eduard Mulder

Eduard Mulder (born July 7, 1832 in Rotterdam , † March 8, 1924 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch chemist.

Life

Eduard was the son of Gerardus Johannes Mulder and his wife Wilhelmina van Rossem. On August 3, 1849, he enrolled at the University of Utrecht to study chemistry. On November 21, 1853 , he received his doctorate with the work Historisch -kritisch overzigt van de bepalingen der aequivalent-gewigte van 13 eenvoudige ligchamen (Historically Critical Overview of the Regulations for Determining the Equivalent Weights of 13 Simple Bodies) as a Doctor of Natural Sciences. In 1854 he became a lecturer in chemistry at the Royal Academy in Delft . Here he had written various papers and published a chemistry textbook. The curators of the University of Utrecht appointed him extraordinary professor of chemistry on September 30, 1864, which he took over on October 10. On October 2, 1868 he was appointed full professor of chemistry, which office he took up on December 4, 1868 with the speech De methode bij scheikundig onderzoek te volgen opgespoord uit de geschiedenis .

In 1878 he also received a teaching position for organic chemistry and in 1879 for toxicology. In his capacity as a Utrecht university lecturer, he also took part in the organizational tasks of the university and was rector of the Alma Mater in 1879/80 . He resigned this office with the speech Over analyze en synthese in de natuurwetenschappen . After Mulder had created a basis for the publication of chemical articles in the Netherlands with his three-volume work Scheikundige aanteekeningen , he founded with Antoine Paul Nicolas Franchimont , Willem Anne van Dorp (1847-1914), Sebastiaan Hoogewerff (1847-1934) and Anthonie in 1882 Cornelis Oudemans (1858–1943), the magazine Recueil des travaux chimiques des Pays-Bas . In 1875 he became a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences and on July 17, 1902 he was retired from his professorship.

family

Mulder has been married twice. His first marriage was on July 2, 1856 in Leiden with Sophia Theodora Terpstra (* around 1828; † September 14, 1864 in Delft). His second marriage was on August 21, 1872 in Utrecht with Henriette Jacoba Gerritzen (born June 10, 1846 in Zoelen, † June 28, 1926 in Utrecht). There are children from the second marriage. We know of these:

  • Arnold Mulder (born May 17, 1876 in Utrecht)
  • Johannes Hermanus Mulder (born February 4, 1878 in Utrecht, † October 16, 1958 in de Bilt) married. with Petronella Antonetta Boeren (born March 18, 1889 in Heusden, † November 18, 1948 in Utrecht)
  • Willem Mulder (born January 29, 1881 in Utrecht)
