The Heinz-Nixdorf-Realschule was the Realschule of the city of Büren in the Paderborn district .

history

At the beginning of the 1960s, the city of Büren saw the need for a public middle school and on August 25, 1969 the public secondary school for boys and girls started teaching at the boarding school " Moritz von Büren ", as the joint building with the secondary school was not yet completed was. In the 1972/73 school year, the secondary school was able to move into its new school center on Kleffnerstrasse. In 1973 the school got an auditorium and a sports and swimming pool as well as a sports field. Since the 1979/80 school year it has been driven in three courses, as the total number of students had risen to 530. In order to give the students an insight into the professional world, company internships have been carried out in the 9th grades since 1984. A final renovation of the school and the school yard followed around the year 2000. Since the end of the school year 2018/2019, the school has been completely replaced by the comprehensive school in Büren .

Naming

The students, teachers and parents voted on the name in 2005 and recommended it to the city council for a vote. This was preceded by years of intensive information and discussion about a possible namesake. After some deliberation, the city council accepted the recommendation by vote. Since March 17th, 2005, the anniversary of Heinz Nixdorf's death, the school has been officially called Heinz-Nixdorf-Realschule, named after the Paderborn computer pioneer Heinz Nixdorf . However, apart from the name, there is no connection between this and the school.

School museum

In the Realschule building there is also a museum that uses pictures and exhibits to illustrate what schools used to be like. However, it is maintained by the Mühlenkamp School.

Student exchange

For several years there has been a friendship between the Heinz-Nixdorf-Realschule and a school in Radom, Poland . In summer 2008 as well as in autumn there were student exchanges between the two schools.

Midday care

Since the beginning of the 2009/2010 school year, afternoon care has been offered for the school’s students. The pupils can choose between a meal in the canteen of the neighboring secondary school, sporting activity or other offers.
