The Helava Glacier is a glacier on Elephant Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It flows south to the Weddell Sea , which it reaches between Pygoscelis Point and Nelly Point .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2016. It was named after the Finnish surveyor Uuno Vilho Helava (1923–1994), a pioneer of modern photogrammetry .
