Hero's time song
As heroic song , a song form the high and late Middle Ages is known, in which, as in heroic song is indeed still reported by the ancient heroes of old, but in a milder form. The Younger Hildebrand's Song is a typical example . The heroes are drawn in a more human way, killing one's own son - as described in the older Hildebrandslied in Old High German - would no longer have appeared heroic to the increasingly civilizing audience, but simply brutal. That is why a conciliatory outcome is sought in the younger version.
The Heldenzeitlied is seen as the link between Heldenlied and German folk song and ballad with four-part versions and four-line stanzas.
