Younger Hildebrand's song

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Younger Hildebrand's Song , which has been handed down in several versions from the 15th to 17th centuries, like the older Hildebrand's song , depicts the fight between Hildebrand , the armorer of Dietrichs von Bern , and his son Hadubrand . It is composed in stanzas of four lines in pairs with a middle caesura , the so-called Hildebrand's tone . The melody of the Hildebrandstone has been handed down.

The father wins, but the song does not end with the death of the son, but with early recognition and a happy reunion between Hildebrand and his wife.

The newer version has a final stanza with a typical recognition mark ( Gnorisma ):

"Oh mother, dear mother my,
now beut in breeding and he! "
Thou picked it up and poured it
and brought ims here himself;
What is he on his mouth?
A finger of gold
He let it sink into the cup
to be the favorite Frawen.
