Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin
Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin , also Gebre-Medhin ( Ethiopian ጸጋዬ ገብረ መድህን; born August 17, 1936 in Boda near Ambo , Ethiopia ; † February 25, 2006 in Manhattan , New York , NY ), was an Ethiopian writer.
He was a poet, playwright, essayist and artist. His mother tongue was Oromifa . In the 1940s he published various poems, plays, essays and lyrics. He wrote them in Amharic . His compatriots compared him to Shakespeare . He translated some of the works by Brecht and Molière into Amharic.
