Heleno Saña Alcon (* 1930 in Barcelona ) is a social philosopher and freelance writer . He has lived in Germany since 1959 and has written over 30 books in Spanish and German.

Life

Heleno Saña comes from a libertarian - anti-fascist family, his youth was marked by the repeated arrests of his father (Juan Saña, member of the CNT and the Ateneo Enciclopédico Popular) and the underground struggle against the Franco regime . After training as a journalist in Madrid, he moved to Germany in 1959; since then he has lived in Darmstadt in southern Hesse . Saña writes about his decision to leave Spain in his book Don Quixote in Germany. Autobiographical Notes of an Outsider :

Maybe my decision to expatriate and settle in Germany was the wrong one. Only: when I decided, Germany was less of a country to me than a woman. The only thing that really mattered to me was the woman I met in Madrid and with whom I wanted to live - no matter how, no matter where. Accordingly, I didn't hesitate for a second to break the bridges behind me and say goodbye to my life in the Spanish capital. "

Saña combines his writing activity with his interest in historical, socio-historical and philosophical topics. He writes for several Spanish and South American periodicals, especially for the cultural magazines El Europeo and Índice (both Madrid), in which he has been reporting on Germany for more than 20 years.

His books Do you understand Germany? , The Upright Nation , The Fourth Reich and The End of Coziness aroused some fierce controversy. The small magazine Die Brücke , which advocates intercultural dialogue . Forum for anti-racist politics and culture , published by Necati Mert, has been the most important platform for Saña in Germany since the 1990s. Saña was married to a German woman and the couple have a daughter, Cristina.
