Hellmuth Drewes

Hellmuth Drewes (born January 25, 1934 in Spittal an der Drau ) is an Austrian composer , musician and choirmaster . He was also a teacher, director of secondary school 3 in Spittal / Drau, local politician (member of the municipal and city council) and mayor of the city of Spittal an der Drau from March 2, 1983 to April 8, 1997.

Career

Hellmuth Drewes has been associated with choral music since his youth. He has been a choirmaster since he was 16 and has been a singer in many choirs. In Innsbruck he was a member of the Innsbruck Chamber Choir Walther von der Vogelweide and the Madrigal Choir there . Until 2006 he headed the Porcia Singing Circle in Spittal, which he founded in 1956 . He was also a co-founder of the annual international choir competition at Porcia Castle in Spittal and taught choir directors and singers. His most important compositional work is the collection of songs from Carinthia for school and home . In 2009 Hellmuth Drewes received the prize, endowed with 14,500 eurosCulture Prize of the State of Carinthia for its extraordinary achievements in the field of folk culture .
