Helmut Dahm (Slavist)

Helmut Dahm (born July 8, 1925 in Remagen ) is a German Slavist.

Career

Dahm was born to the married couple Hans and Helene Dahm. After graduating from high school, he studied Catholic theology in Trier from January 1946 and philosophy, Eastern European history and Slavic philology in Mainz from 1949 and graduated in 1955 with a doctorate. From 1955 to 1969 he was a member of the editorial team and at times editor-in-chief of Ost -problem . From 1962 he was head of Research Area I at the Federal Institute for Eastern and International Studies in Cologne. He completed his habilitation in Munich in 1974 and from 1983 was Professor of Eastern European Intellectual History and Philosophy.

From 1961 to 1992 he was a member of the Society "Wissenschaft und Gegenwart" and from 1979 head of the Philosophy Section. In 1984 he was accepted into the Associatio Sanctus Benedictus Patronus Europa.
