Helmut Reichenauer

Helmut Reichenauer (born April 29, 1946 in Graz ) is an Austrian music researcher , pianist and museum director.

Life

Helmut Reichenauer graduated from high school in 1964 and then studied history and music (teaching post) at the Karl Franzens University of Graz and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz . In 1971 he completed his studies as a Magister phil. and Magister art. from. Reichenauer worked as a professor for music and history at the Academic Gymnasium Graz . He was also a lecturer in music didactics at the Graz University of Music and as a specialist inspector for music education at the state school board for Styria. He has also given concerts as an instrumental and song accompanist and as a pianist.

Otherwise, Reichenauer primarily conducts research on the family of Johann Strauss (father) and Johann Strauss (son) . He works in the Vienna Institute for Strauss Research as well as in the Johann Strauss Society of Great Britain and the German Johann Strauss Society .

In 2011 he founded the Wiener Blut cultural association , of which he is president. Since its opening in 2015, the association itself has officially been the sponsor of the “ Museum of the Johann Strauss Dynasty ” in Vienna, the vast majority of which consists of Reichenauer's decades-long private collection, which he donated to the association or given as a long-term loan , and regularly publishes the Almanac - The Magical World of the Strauss Family , of which he is the editor.
