Helsingin Pallo-Pojat

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Helsingin Pallo-Pojat (abbreviated PPojat ; German : Helsinkis Ball-Jungs ) is the name of a football club from the Finnish capital Helsinki that was founded in 1935 .

The club achieved its greatest success in 1956 as a second division team. In the final of the Finnish Football Cup , the Pallo-Pojat met Tampereen Kisatoverit , who was also playing second class at the time. The Helsinkians won the game 2-1. From 1959 to 1961 the club played for three seasons in the top division of Finland, the then Mestaruussarja. In 1961 the club reached the cup final again, but lost to KTP Kotka 2: 5. Then the club played second class from 1962 to 1965 before relegation followed here as well. This was followed by another jump into the lowlands of the Finnish league system. 1988 succeeded again the promotion to the third division, from which the Pallo-Pojat, however, relegated again after a 1989 season. After the turn of the millennium, financial problems led the men's team to withdraw from the game. Since then only junior teams have been active.
