features
The brownish colored day-like reach a length of 5–7.5 mm. Hemerobius stigma has a characteristic wing vein .
Occurrence
The species occurs in the Holarctic . It is widespread in Europe and North America.
Way of life
Hemerobius stigma prefers coniferous forests as a habitat. The daytime is observed especially in spring in the months of March and April. Adults and larvae predatorily live on aphids such as the European silver fir tree louse ( Mindarus abietinus ), the pine stem louse ( Adelges piceae ) and Pineus strobi , a species from the Adelgidae family . As these are considered to be forest pests , Hemerobius stigma is considered a potential biological pest control agent .
