Station building

Hendon Central is an above-ground London Underground station in the London Borough of Barnet . It is on the border of the Travelcard tariff zones 3 and 4, at the intersection of Hendon Way, Watford Way and Queen's Road. In 2013, 6.84 million passengers used this station served by the Northern Line .

Immediately at the north-western end of the station there is an approximately 1000 meter long tunnel that crosses under the center of the Hendon district; the rest of the route to Edgware is again above ground. The station opened on November 19, 1923. Hendon Central was the terminus for nine months, and the extension to Edgware was put into operation on August 18, 1924.

The station building was designed by Stanley Heaps in a neo-Georgian style, but was not completed until 1929. The most striking features are the Portland stone clad front facade and an arcade with eight Doric columns in the entrance area. The building has been a listed building ( Grade II ) since 2011 .
