Hendrefor burial chamber

The remains of the Hendrefor chambers are now two piles of rocks with one upright stone, in a pasture. Originally, the stones formed two chambers in the north-west and south-east of a tumulus or cairn , about 7.0 m apart and destroyed as early as the beginning of the 19th century , the material of which has long been cleared away .

The western chamber, with the supporting stones and an unrolled 2.6 m long capstone, was destroyed in the late 18th century. At that time, the eastern chamber with its 2.8 × 2.4 m capstone still stood on two or four supporting stones. Before 1825 it was destroyed except for the lonely stone. This stone has a weak L-shaped profile, either as a result of splitting off during the destruction or in its original function, similar to that found in some stones of the Trethevy Quoit in Cornwall , as an access for the periodic introduction or removal of the bones from the chamber .
