The mountain range Heng Shan ( Chinese  衡山 , Pinyin Héng Shān , English Mount Heng ), formerly also known as Nan Yue ( 南岳 , Nán Yuè ) is located in the south of the province of Hunan , approx. 100 km south of the capital Changsha .

The mountain range extends over a length of 150 km and has 72 peaks. It is one of the Five Sacred Mountains ( 五嶽  /  五岳 , Wǔyuè ) of Daoism in China. Nanyue Miao Temple is located in the mountains of Heng Shan and has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China since 2006 .
