Henge from Castle Dykes
The Castle Dykes henge is a Class I Neolithic henge , southwest of the hamlet of Aysgarth, near Darlington in the Yorkshire Dales National Park in North Yorkshire in England . The henge consists of an approximately round wall with a diameter of about 80 m and an inner ditch.
Excavations are reported to have taken place in 1908, although there is little physical evidence as the henge appears to be intact. J. Barrett, who first mentioned Castle Dyke as Disc barrow in 1929, introduced the Henge of Yarnbury to archaeological literature 32 years later . In 2015, the Royal Archaeological Institute awarded a research grant for an investigation of the site and a paleoecological sampling.
