Henning Steinfeld

Henning Steinfeld (* 1957 in Cologne ) is a German agronomist , director of the “Cattle Breeding Policy” sector of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN, based in Rome and author of scientific articles on the same topic.

Life

Steinfeld was born in Cologne and grew up in East Westphalia . He studied agricultural science at the Free University of Berlin . He oversaw several agricultural development projects in Africa. Since 1995 he has been director of the FAO's livestock policy sector and in this position has dealt critically on several occasions with the worldwide breeding of cattle and the effects on the climate . He is responsible for the publication of the UNO report Livestock's Long Shadow , which documents the harmful effects of livestock on the climate.
