Henri Houben
Henri Houben (* 1858 in Antwerp ; † 1931 ibid) was a Belgian painter of landscapes, cityscapes, genre scenes and portraits.
He studied at the Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen with Charles Verlat . In 1877 he won the first prize for landscape painting.
He mostly painted landscapes with horses and cows as well as animated cityscapes of Antwerp. More rarely he painted portraits and genre scenes in rooms.
Based on the design of his friend Albrecht de Vriendt (1843–1900), he created the murals in the stairwell of Antwerp City Hall.
With his master Verlat he worked on a now lost panorama of the Battle of Waterloo . In Moscow in 1888 they created another panorama, “The Military Parade of the Russian Army”.
In 1885 he was appointed professor at the Antwerp Academy. In 1896 he exhibited his works in Antwerp together with Edouard de Jans (1855–1919).
