Henri Mansuy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Henri Mansuy (* 1857 ; † 1937 ) was a French archaeologist and pioneer of the archeology of Vietnamese early history. Together with Madeleine Colani (1866–1943) he discovered the Bacson culture in the province of Lang Son . He was also a paleontologist .

Researches

In 1906 Mansuy excavated the Pho Binh Gia cave in Lang Son province. This site contained late Neolithic artifacts and flint tools . 15 years later, together with Colani, he discovered such finds in another 27 excavation sites, which, due to certain markings, could be ascribed to the Bacson culture. Human remains have also been found.

In 1919 he is said to have put an end to the career of his former friend and colleague Jacques Deprat by making false statements in a lawsuit.
