Life

Act

In 1968 in Seattle, he developed the dialysis catheter named after him for peritoneal dialysis , which runs under the skin with two sleeves and tunnels it, thereby significantly reducing the risk of catheter-related inflammation. The catheter was introduced with a trocar he had developed. Tenckhoff was later involved in the development of automated (home) peritoneal dialysis procedures, including developing a water treatment system for home dialysis. In professional circles he was referred to as the "father of chronic peritoneal dialysis".
