Henryka Krystyna Krzywonos-Strycharska (born March 27, 1953 in Olsztyn ) is an activist of the Polish trade union Solidarność .

Life

From 1973 to 1978 she worked as a tram driver in Gdansk , then as a crane operator in the Gdansk Lenin shipyard, before returning to the tram driver's cab in 1979.

On August 15, 1980, she stopped tram number 15 in front of the Baltic State Opera and informed the tram passengers, who responded with shouts of bravo, that the journey would not continue, a signal that the workers' strike had begun to continue . On August 16, she went to the shipyard to meet the strikers and announced that she would join the union. With Alina Pienkowska , Anna Walentynowicz and Ewa Osowska , she was one of the most important figures on the strike committee. On August 31, she was a signatory to the August accord with the government.

During martial law in Poland , she was badly beaten during a house search. As a result of this abuse, she lost her unborn child.

From 1994 until her retirement in 2009 she ran a private children's home in Gdansk.

On May 3, 2006 she received the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland, the Order Polonia Restituta, for outstanding achievements in her work for democratic change in Poland . In 2009 she was honored by the Congress of Polish Women.

At the official commemoration for the 30th anniversary of Solidarność on August 30, 2010, she spoke briefly and protested against what she believed to be unsolidarity and divisive actions by individual Solidarność members.
