Monique Bauer-Lagier (born December 1, 1922 in Meyrin ; † February 19, 2006 in Onex , entitled to live in Onex) was a Swiss politician ( LPS ).

biography

Bauer graduated from high school in 1941 and obtained a diploma in pedagogy at the Institut des sciences de l'éducation in Geneva . She then worked as a teacher for eight years.

Her political career began with her election to the Grand Council of the Canton of Geneva in 1973, where she had a seat until 1977. In 1975 she was elected to the National Council before moving to the Council of States in 1979 . She stayed there until 1987. Bauer was also on the central executive committee of the Liberal Party of Switzerland .

As a women's rights activist, she campaigned for the new marriage law and for equal rights for men and women in the federal commissions. The protection of minorities , ecological concerns, a new global economic order between North and South and an active dialogue between East and West were her main concerns. As president, she campaigned for several organizations - a parliamentary group for refugees, the International Geneva Peace Research Institute , the Swiss Aids Aid , the Bread for Brothers campaign , the International Association of French-speaking Parliamentarians and the Unir Suisses et Internationaux de Genève .
