Edmund Schramm

Edmund Schramm (born May 17, 1902 in Würzburg , † May 28, 1975 in Mainz ) was a German Romance and Hispanic scholar . He was a member of the SA 1934–1937 and the NSDAP from 1937 until its end in 1945.

life and work

Schramm received his doctorate in 1928 at the University of Würzburg under Arthur Franz with Corneille's "Héraclius" and Calderón's "En esta vida todo es verdad y todo mentira". A contribution to the history of literary relations between France and Spain in the 17th century and completed his habilitation in 1932 at the University of Greifswald with Hellmuth Petriconi on Donoso Cortés . Life and work of a Spanish anti-liberal . In 1938 he became an adjunct professor in Greifswald. In 1946 he was appointed to the newly founded University of Mainz . There he was first a colleague of Eugen Lerch , later of Wilhelm Theodor Elwert . His students included Hans Helmut Christmann , Erwin Koppen , Heinz Kröll and Manfred Tietz. Between 1947 and 1955 he promoted the establishment of the State Interpreting College in Germersheim .
