Gustav Körting (born June 25, 1845 in Dresden , † February 1, 1913 in Kiel ) was a German philologist , Romance scholar and English scholar .

life and work

Körting studied philology and history in Leipzig between 1863 and 1867 . He received his doctorate in Leipzig in 1867 under Adolf Ebert with a study "On the sources of the Roman de Rou". He was then a high school teacher in Plauen as well as at the Thomasschule in Leipzig and the Kreuzschule in Dresden. From 1876 to 1892 he was (as successor to Hermann Suchier ) full professor for Romance and English philology at the academy in Münster , from 1892 (as successor to Albert Stimming ) full professor for Romance philology at the University of Kiel . In 1879 he founded the “Journal for French Language and Literature” together with Eduard Koschwitz . His grave is in the Eichhof park cemetery near Kiel.

The philologist Heinrich Körting was his brother.
