The Henschel DEL 80 is a two-axle diesel-electric locomotive series from the Henschel locomotive factory , of which fifteen were built from 1936 to 1943. 13 locomotives were in standard gauge , two of which were 900 mm wide.

history

Henschel began developing diesel-electric locomotives in the mid-1930s. The DEL 80 was the smallest locomotive, while the more powerful versions were the two-axle DEL 110 and DEL 150 and the three-axle DEL 220 .

The locomotives were mainly delivered to various works railways.

In the DEL 80, a Henschel engine with an output of 59 kW (80 PS) drives a generator from Siemens- Schuckert, which acts on both axles with a chain.

Preserved locomotives

In 2006 there were still two standard-gauge and one narrow-gauge locomotives preserved. The standard-gauge ones are in the Neustadt Railway Museum on the Weinstrasse of the German Society for Railway History and at the Nostalgiebahnen in Carinthia in Austria, the narrow-gauge ones at the German Railway Association in Bruchhausen-Vilsen.

From 1947, the Borkumer Kleinbahn took over. It was scrapped in 1988. In the same year, the Borkumer Kleinbahn sold it to the German Railway Association Bruchhausen-Vilsen . There it was re-tracked from 900 mm to 1000 mm. It is designated there as V 4 EMDEN and is operational.

The EMDEN II locomotive was the only Borkum locomotive with a diesel-electric drive. The maximum speed is 25 km / h. The wheel diameter is 850 mm.
