Heptagram

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A heptagram is a regular seven-pointed star (Greek hepta = seven). There are two such stars: With seven points evenly distributed on a circle, chords between adjacent points form a regular heptagon , the heptagon . Tendons that lead past one point to the next but one form the plumper of the two heptagram stars. Tendons that lead past two points to the third next form the one with the more pointed prongs.

Various properties are ascribed to the heptagram in esotericism , which is why it is a preferred symbol for decorating amulets . It can also be found in the seal of the Astrum Argenteum .

Independent of esoteric ideas, heptagram stars are also used for purely decorative purposes, for example in jewelry, printed matter and buildings.
