Herbert Schneider (musicologist)

Herbert Schneider (born March 23, 1941 in Wiesbaden ) is a German musicologist and former professor at Saarbrücken University .

Career

Schneider did research primarily on the history of music theory , carried out numerous studies in the history of opera as well as the history of the art song, in particular on the music of France and in the area of ​​the exchange of experience between German and French music. He took the opportunity several times to work as a visiting professor in France.

Schneider's publications deal with music historiography from the 16th to the early 20th century, including books, essays and encyclopedic articles as well as his editions.

Schneider is the editor of the Jean Baptiste Lully complete edition at Georg Olms Verlag .
