Herbert Skowronek (born December 7, 1953 ) was a football player in the game operations of the GDR Football Association . In its highest division, the Oberliga , Skowronek played for BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau .

In 1974, at the age of 20, locksmith Skowronek came from Empor Merseburg, the company sports association (BSG) of the Merseburg pulp and paper factory, to Chemie Buna Schkopau, the BSG of Chemische Werke Buna . While the Merseburg soccer team had not even reached the district league level (3rd division) at that time , Schkopau had been represented in the second-rate GDR league for a year . Skowronek first played until November 1978 for BSG Chemie in the GDR league. Then he was drafted into the "National People's Army" and played football for the lower class 2nd team of the army sports community Vorwärts Dessau . After his release in April 1980, he returned to Schkopau and surprisingly rose to the top division after a year with the Chemie Buna team. The 1.74 m tall Skowronek was involved in this success with a goal in 20 appearances in 30 GDR league games. In the league season 1981/82, coach Olaf Keller planned with Skowronek as a stopper . He played the first six point games in this position, but then had to pause due to injury until February 1982. After that he was used as a pre-stopper in ten league games. In its 16 games, the Schkopauer had to accept 53 goals (around 3 per game). At the end of the season, Chemie Buna had a goal difference of 21:77 and was relegated as the worst team after a year from the league. Then Skowronek played five seasons with Schkopau in the GDR league. In the course of the 1986/87 season, he ended his career as a competitive footballer at the age of 33.
