Herbert Witzel

Herbert Witzel (born February 8, 1924 in Nieder-Mörlen ; † September 1, 1996 in Münster ) was a German professor of biochemistry at the University of Münster .

Witzel received his doctorate in 1956 under Karl Dimroth at the University of Marburg (dinucleoside phosphates from bismuth-catalyzed hydrolyses of yeast nucleic acid). He had previously received his doctorate in medicine there in 1954 (the acid-base balance in its clinical significance and comprehensibility). He became a professor in Marburg and later in Münster, where he held the chair for biochemistry and was director of the institute for biochemistry. In 1989 he retired.

His doctoral students include Hans Günter Gassen and Michael Petz .
