Herbert von Beckerath

Herbert von Beckerath (born April 4, 1886 in Krefeld , † March 10, 1966 in Washington, DC ) was a German economist . Beckerath came from an important Krefeld family and was cousin of the economist Erwin von Beckerath .

Beckerath completed his habilitation in 1914 in economics and finance at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . There he became a private lecturer and, in 1920, a full professor of political science in Karlsruhe. From 1922 he taught economics at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1925 he was appointed professor of political science and director of the Institute for Social and Economic Sciences in Bonn.

As an opponent of the Nazi regime, Beckerath emigrated to the USA, was a visiting lecturer in Durham, and since 1955 full professor at the University of North Carolina.
