The Hercynia , full title: Hercynia - Contributions to the Research and Maintenance of Natural Resources , is a scientific periodical published at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg . It publishes articles that deal with the research, care and protection of natural resources and can be assigned to the fields of botany , zoology , geology , geography , forestry and agriculture . The focus here is on the “Hercynian area”, which, according to the self-image of the magazine, lies in Central Europe between the Mittelland Canal line in the north, the Oder-Neisse line in the east, the Main line in the south and the Weser line in the west extends.

The first volume of the magazine appeared in 1937. The previous period was entitled Report of the Association for Research into the Domestic Plant World in Halle ad Saale and appeared from 1914 to 1922. The first volume of the “New Series”, the current series, appeared in 1963.

The periodical appears with one volume per year, each of which comprises two issues.
