Hereford Railway (United Kingdom)

Hereford Railway was a British railway company based in Herefordshire , England .

The company received on May 26, 1826 the concession to build a railway line from Monmouth Cap near Pontrilas to Wyebridge in Hereford . The equity capital was set at £ 19,460. The largest shareholders were MPs Robert Price and JG Cotterill . The line opened on September 2, 1829 and together with the Grosmont Railway established a connection between Hereford and the Brecknock and Abergavenny Canal . The company was taken over in 1846 by the Newport, Abergavenny and Hereford Railway .
