The Hermann Duncker Medal was awarded by the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was donated in 1972 by the FDGB in one step. The award was made for outstanding merits in the class-wise education of the young generation in the sense of socialism.

Appearance and wearing style

The silver-plated medal with a diameter of 30 mm shows the portrait of Hermann Duncker in the center of its obverse, surrounded by the lower semicircular inscription: HERMANN DUNCKER . The reverse of the medal, on the other hand, showed the seven-line inscription: FOR / MERIT / AT THE / CLASS / EDUCATION / THE / YOUTH and underneath the symbol of the FDGB. The medal was worn on the upper left side of the chest on rectangular 25 mm wide red-covered clasp in which a 3 mm wide blue stripe was woven on both sides 3 mm from the hem. The interim clasp was of the same quality and also showed a 10 mm diameter silver miniature of the obverse of the medal.
