Henry Wells (* 1906 in Dallas , † after 1960 in New York City ) was an American jazz - trombone player and singer of swing.

Wells was the brother of Dicky Wells (1907–1985), who also played the trombone. Wells studied music at Fisk University and the Cincinnati Conservatory in the 1920s ; In 1926 he began to work as a professional musician. While at Fisk University, he met Jimmie Lunceford , who led a student band called The Chickasaw Syncopators . Wells became a member of the professional Lunceford band in 1929 and stayed until 1935. During this time he also worked with other band leaders such as Claude Hopkins and Cab Calloway . From 1936 to 1946 he played occasionally with Andy Kirk ; also with Gene Krupa , Teddy Hill and their own big band . Wells also worked as a singer with Kirk. After military service during World War II, he worked with Rex Stewart and Sy Oliver in the late 1940s . Wells remained active as a musician in California until the 1960s.
