Hermann Schmidt Prize

The Hermann Schmidt Prize is awarded by the Innovative Vocational Training Association, which was founded in 1996 by the Federal Institute for Vocational Training in Bonn and the W. Bertelsmann Verlag (wbv) Bielefeld. It is named after the President of the Institute for Vocational Education and Training from 1977 to 1997, the professional pedagogue Hermann Schmidt .

The Hermann Schmidt Prize has been awarded annually since 1997 to honor innovative projects from professional training practice and to make them publicly known. In 2012, the prize was awarded to the municipal project SWITCH 2.0 in Aachen , which places dropouts in companies in the Aachen region for the purpose of dual vocational training. In 2015, the Hermann Schmidt Prize was awarded to projects and initiatives that have developed and verifiably implemented innovative company models to promote social skills in training and further education. In 2017, the award ceremony was under the theme of "Vocational training and further education for the digitized world of work". Four projects were awarded for this, the winners of the award were the vocational schools on Brinkstrasse in Osnabrück for an “innovative training concept to promote digital skills”.
