The OECD Publishing ( wbv ) is a publishing house based in Bielefeld generated content in the fields of education, vocational and social research, prepares and distributes in the form of books or digital media.

The wbv publishes media on educational and social research, vocational training, adult education, universities as well as personnel and organizational development. Most of the publications are issued by well-known institutions. The Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) , the German Institute for Adult Education (DIE), the OECD , the Research Institute for Company Education (f-bb) and the German Society for Personnel Management e. V. (DGFP) are among the longstanding partners of the publishing house.

Among other things, the German edition of the PISA study (published by the OECD) and the report Education in Germany (published by the Consortium Education Reporting on behalf of the Standing Conference and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research) appear in the wbv. Since 2008, the company has also published the publications of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB). In 2013 the wbv published a text Open Access (OA) for the first time and opened a free publication channel .

As a media service provider, W. Bertelsmann Verlag u. a. for the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD) and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK).

More than 60 employees in editorial, technology and administration work on the publishing and media projects.

history

W. Bertelsmann Verlag was founded on October 1, 1864 by Wilhelm Bertelsmann, son of the Gütersloh publisher Carl Bertelsmann , as the “Bertelsmann Brothers” book and lithographic printing company in Bielefeld. From 1880, the company that created and published official forms (in the 3rd Reich also included the ancestral pass ) under the name "Bertelsmann Buchdruckerei, W. Bertelsmann". In the following decades the wbv developed from a forms publisher to a specialist publisher and media service provider.

Since 1993, W. Arndt Bertelsmann has been running the family company in the fifth generation as managing partner. In 2014 the wbv celebrated its 150th anniversary. On March 1, 2018, the company changed its name to wbv Media .

Hermann Schmidt Prize

The wbv is particularly committed to the subject of vocational training. In 1996, the wbv and the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) founded the association “Innovative Berufsbildung e. V. ". The association annually honors innovative projects in vocational training with the " Hermann Schmidt Prize ". The award is named after Hermann Schmidt, President of the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) from 1977 to 1997.
