Hermann

Hermann is the last surviving wooden cargo ship . It was built in 1905 at the Claus Witt shipyard in Wewelsfleth .

100 years ago, over 1000 ships of this type ensured that Hamburg was supplied with cargo via the Lower Elbe . After two restorations (1978 & 1998) it is no longer floatable and is only an exhibit.

Hermann was on 28 June 2006 by the city of Itzehoe as a permanent loan of the Hamburg Maritime Foundation transferred. On September 9, 2006, it was taken overland to Hamburg and has since been on display in the Hamburg harbor museum's historical shed 50.
