Hermann Georg von Neuhof (* 1596 ; † January 25, 1644 in Neuhof ) was Prince Abbot of Fulda from 1635 to 1644 .

Life

The parents were Wilhelm von Neuhof and Ursula von Hatzfeld zu Wildenburg, who had converted from Lutheranism to Catholicism.

Hermann Georg von Neuhof had been an alumnus of the Papal Seminary in Fulda since 1608 at the latest. In 1617 he was ordained a priest in Cologne. In 1625 Hermann Georg became Provost von Blankenau , and in 1631 he was also given the Propstei Holzkirchen . While the noble collegiate chapter elected Hermann Georg abbot on February 24, 1635, the bourgeois members of the convention - who demanded both active and passive suffrage - elected Abbot von Huisburg. After more than two years of dispute, the Curia decided to elect an abbot in favor of Hermann Georg.

Because of the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War , Abbot Hermann Georg left the monastery area more often and went to safe places. The pen was damaged by the war, which led to catastrophic economic conditions. Hermann Georg even pledged the monastery archive, which had been brought to Cologne for security, for 6,000 guilders.

In 1638 or 1639 the abbot suffered a leg injury due to a fall on the steps of the collegiate church , which permanently impaired his walking. This is probably one of the reasons why he proposed Salentin von Sinzig as his coadjutor shortly afterwards, to whom the chapter approved. However, Salentin von Sinzig turned out to be unsuitable for the office of abbot in character and administrative terms, so that after Hermann Georg's death on January 25, 1644 in Neuhof Palace, he was financially compensated and Joachim Graf von Gravenegg was elected as the successor of the deceased abbot.

Because of the approaching Hessian troops, Hermann Georg von Neuhof was buried first in the Neuhofer church and on May 6th in the collegiate church in Fulda.
