Hermann I. (Schwalenberg)

Hermann I. von Schwalenberg (* around 1163, † around 1224) was Count von Schwalenberg from the noble family of the same name , Count von Waldeck , Vogt of Paderborn , Aroldessen and Flechtdorf .

Hermann I was born around 1163 as the second son of Count Volkwin II von Schwalenberg and his second wife. In 1184 Hermann became Count of Waldeck, after he had previously become Count of Schwalenberg. In 1185 he and his brothers helped found the Marienfeld monastery . He renounced the title of Count von Schwalenberg in 1189, became Vogt of Paderborn and acquired Brilon . However, he lost the bailiwicks of Aroldessen and in 1195 also Flechtdorf .

Hermann I died completely impoverished around 1224. The county of Waldeck fell to his nephews Volkwin IV and Adolf I von Schwalenberg.
