Life

The son of a merchant was also destined for the trade, but his great love for the theater and enthusiasm for art led him to the stage as early as 1857. He did not take dramatic lessons, but was always his own teacher. Only when he found capable directors like Marr and Maurice during his engagement did he try to learn as much as possible from them. He found his first engagement with small theaters, but in 1860 he joined the Meininger Hoftheater association , where he stayed for a year. In 1862 he worked at the Stadttheater Aachen and from 1863 to 1864 at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg. From there he was invited to a guest performance at the Hoftheater Mannheim, where he made his debut as “Narciß”, “Perin” and “ Mephisto ” and was immediately engaged for this art institute, to which he also belonged as a director until 1906 when he was 41 years old Activity there was adopted.
