Hermann Litt

Hermann Litt (born February 28, 1859 in Zell b. Bensheim , † June 11, 1939 in Berlin ) was a German theater director and actor , great-uncle of the philosopher Theodor Litt .

Life

He worked in numerous theaters in Germany as an opera and drama director and also appeared repeatedly in his own and other productions. Places of his activity were Magdeburg, Kiel, Wismar, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Breslau and Berlin. In the theater seasons 1895 and 1896 he also appeared in guest performances in German theaters on New York theaters, a. a. in the Terrace Garden with The Model by Franz von Suppè . Between 1907 and 1910, several tours in different ensembles took him to South America. H. Litt worked as senior director for the "German-South American Opera and Operetta Society".

During the time of the silent film, Hermann Litt took on two roles in productions of Deutsche Bioscop GmbH in Berlin in 1911 and 1912: Doctor Martinus Luther (world premiere on September 2, 1911), in which he played the title role and Die Macht des Goldes (director: Urban Gad ) , there at the side of Asta Nielsen . Both films are considered lost , only a few photos, programs and advertisements testify to their existence.

Impoverished by the effects of inflation in the early twenties, Litt was forced to work in a vocal quartet and as a silent film instructor at an advanced age.
